Minister of Justice A. Tashkulov held a meeting with George Lim, Head of the Singapore International Mediation Centre.

During the meeting, the following issues were discussed:
▪️ the growing use of mediation as a peaceful means of resolving disputes;
▪️ the advantages of mediation, such as faster, more cost-effective, and less stressful proceedings for the parties involved;
▪️ the introduction of a system for training and accrediting mediators;
▪️ expanding the use of mediation in sectors like banking and insurance;
▪️ the implementation of an electronic platform based on Singapore’s experience;
▪️ joining the Singapore Convention.
It is worth noting that while 4,800 cases were resolved through mediation in Uzbekistan in 2021, this figure reached 7,200 in 2024 — a 50% increase.
As a result of the meeting, the following agreements were reached:
1. Re-training over 20 Uzbek mediators in accordance with international standards in cooperation with mediator training centers in Singapore;
2. Improving the regulations, statutes, and codes of the Tashkent Mediation Centre;
3. Taking necessary measures to transform Uzbekistan into a regional hub for resolving mediation disputes in Central Asia;
4. Reviewing certain international disputes at the Tashkent Mediation Centre;
5. Organizing an International Mediation Week within the framework of the “Tashkent Law Spring” forum;
6. Signing a Memorandum of Understanding and a Roadmap on cooperation with the Singapore International Mediation Centre.
George Lim, in turn, expressed his positive outlook on close cooperation in the field of mediation and confirmed his personal readiness to provide practical assistance in this regard.
This meeting marked an important step towards international experience exchange, legislative development, and the promotion of mediation culture in Uzbekistan.
